FIRST Robotics

Triangle Fraternity is honored to be one of the newest Alliance Partners with FIRST - For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology - one of the largest and most successful organizations in the world dedicated to STEM education and careers. More than 480,000 K-12 students around the globe participate in one or more of FIRST's four major programs.

It’s never too early to start learning and discovering STEM. FIRST LEGO League allows children ages 4–16* to explore STEM through fun and exciting hands-on learning. The program is divided into three divisions designed to grow with children as they advance in age and skill level. FIRST LEGO League Discover is for children in Pre-K through Grade 1 (ages 4–6) and introduces STEM concepts through creative play and exploration using LEGO Duplo bricks. FIRST LEGO League Explore is for grades 2–4 (ages 6–10) and encourages kids to tackle real-world problems while learning engineering fundamentals, designing, and coding with LEGO Education robots.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge is designed for students in grades 4–8 (ages 9–16), where competition plays a central role. Teams research real-world issues, develop innovative solutions, and build and program LEGO robots to complete missions. Through each division, participants grow their STEM skills, collaborate with peers, and gain confidence in problem-solving. It's more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (10+ members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team. Each season concludes with regional championship events and an exciting FIRST Championship. Learn more here.

Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. FIRST Robotics Competition is the ultimate sport for the mind. High school student participants call it the "hardest fun you'll ever have." Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand", hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It's as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team and each season ends with an exciting FIRST Championship.

Volunteering for FIRST

There are so many great opportunities to get involved with FIRST. Whether you are able to support a local team, participate as a coach or referee, or even help Triangle out as a Triangle FIRST Ambassador, you will be contributing to the STEM community in undeniable ways!

As a Triangle FIRST Ambassador, you would be volunteering at one of the Regional or National FIRST events or Championships. Typically, ambassadors will be stationed at the Triangle booth, engaging with FIRST competitors, volunteers, alumni, and family members introducing them to Triangle, the support we offer, our National scholarship, and much more!

However, we understand that you may want to volunteer with FIRST in another capacity - which is FANTASTIC! We would just love to know about it! Please, still complete this form so that we can track our volunteers.
